How A Personal Trainer Can Help You

So you’ve decided to sign up to the 8 Week Challenge… congratulations on taking the first step. But now what? If you’re new to the gym or a first-time participant in the Goodlife 8 Week Challenge, we understand that the idea of facing your health and fitness goals alone can feel a little daunting. But don’t worry, we’ve got you.

Working with a personal trainer is one of the easiest ways to overcome gym-timidation. They’ll push you out of your comfort zone, help keep you accountable, and most importantly they’ll help  you reach your personal health and fitness goals, whatever they may be.

But don’t just take our word for it. We chat to Goodlife members and previous Transformation challenge participants, Aaron, Amee and Skei on how working with a personal trainer seriously amplified their results.

5 Reasons To Get A Personal Trainer

1. Motivation

Admit it – you work harder, lift heavier and push yourself further with a training buddy to motivate you every step of the way. Think of a personal trainer as your training buddy with the added benefit of expert knowledge and industry experience. Goodlife Cleveland member Aaron says he couldn’t have completed the 8 Week Challenge without working with a personal trainer. “They put things in place that help me to be motivated.” Aaron says, “they're there to support you the whole way through and the results wouldn't have been as good without that support.”

2. Accountability

Scheduling a regular training session with your personal trainer means you’re less likely to skip your workouts. Goodlife Essendon member Amee says her personal trainer kept her accountable during the 8 Week Challenge. “He was always there when I was maybe doubting myself, and he always gave me that confidence boost that I needed most mornings.”

3. Tailored programs

Personal trainers realise that no two bodies are the same and understand the importance of a tailored training program. If you’re worried about an existing health condition or returning from injury, don’t rule the 8 Week Challenge out completely! Goodlife Karingal member Skei didn’t let her injury stop her from achieving her goals. She worked closely with  her personal trainer Jane, and together they created a personalised training plan . Skei says, “Jane knew my injury, my body and what I could do. Because I can't do what everyone else can do, Jane always made sure I could do something that was going to benefit and challenge me. She was a big impact.”

4. Learn how to use equipment

Not seeing the results you want? While you may be training consistently at the gym, you’ll only be able to maximise results if you use the equipment properly. Working with a personal trainer will help you master the basics and learn a few expert tips and techniques that will help you work out on own with confidence.

5. Help set realistic goals

If you want to lose 10 kilos during the 8 Week Challenge or be able to run 5 kilometres on the treadmill without stopping, a personal trainer can help you get there. They’ll assess your current level of fitness, diet and lifestyle and set smaller goals that will put you on the path to success.
