Want to be a Group Fitness Instructor?

Have you ever wondered how your favourite Group Fitness Instructors started their journey?

We asked Alex Chin (Body Attack and Body Pump Instructor) just that!!

1. What do you love about teaching group fitness classes?

I love working with a diverse member base. There are so many members from different walks of life that have their own reasons for joining the gym (improving physical and/or mental health, feeling a sense of community, staying active etc.). I love the challenge of finding a variety of ways to coach and motivate all members in my classes to get the most out of their workouts.

2. What/who got you into teaching and what was it like?

My incredible BODY ATTACK instructors at Goodlife (Luke, Naomi, Kerry, Andréa, Emma and Sue to name a few) collectively spent YEARS convincing me to do my instructor training. It took a lot of effort on their end as I was so stubborn! Eventually, I decided to book myself in for a BODY ATTACK training module and received an overwhelming amount of support during my training from instructors and members which, to this day, I am so grateful for.

3. What would you say to anyone thinking about doing training to become a group fitness instructor?

Be brave, be bold and take the leap out of your comfort zone. You are braver than you think you are, so don’t be afraid if you haven’t done something like this before - trust the learning process and everything will fall into place with preparation, perseverance and self-reflection. Everyone will be there to support you and cheer you on!
